Uppsala University, Department of Materials Science and Engineering

Project Coordinator

At the Division of Applied Materials Science, Department of Materials Science and Engineering, Ångström Laboratory.

Full-time permanent position. Six months of probation may be applied.

Work environment: Your duties in this quite varied role will be to provide important administrative support to research leaders and larger project constellations at the Ångström Laboratory, which means that you will be naturally integrated as a member of these research groups and consortia. In the first instance you will be based in Prof. Cecilia Persson's research group, which specialises in developing and evaluating new biomaterials for future use in primarily orthopedics (http://www.teknik.uu.se/bms/). Your primary task will be to provide support for Prof Persson in the following new and ongoing projects: the recently funded VINNOVA Competence Centre in Additive Manufacturing for the Life Sciences, running from 2020-2024 (https://www.vinnova.se/nyheter/2019/06/satsning-pa-forskningsmiljoer-i-varldsklass/); the EU-funded Marie Sklodowska Curie Innovative Training Network NU-SPINE (http://nu-spine.eu); and the Ångström Additive Manufacturing Initiative (http://additivemanufacturing.se/).

Tasks: This position is primarily intended to be an administrative support function for research leaders, centers and larger consortia. Your day-to-day role will be to ‘make-it-happen’ - organizing, structuring and developing new systems. This will include supporting internal and external communication, coordinating meetings ranging from a few participants up to hundreds, as well as administrative, scientific and financial project follow-up and reporting. Tasks can vary widely in complexity and may include additional support within the research group e.g. travel booking and reporting, helping PhD students with scientific writing, updating websites with new research results and publications, coordinating and submitting scientific and financial reports to research funders, developing research information in the form of posters and outreach demos as well as helping with larger applications, both in design, budgeting and coordination.

Qualification Requirements: We seek applicants with a PhD in engineering physics, materials science, chemical engineering, biomedical engineering or equivalent education in adjoining areas, as we believe that it is necessary to understand the nature of the research to enjoy this position and to manage the tasks given. Experience with additive manufacturing and/or biomaterials is an advantage. The tasks within this position will be shared between the needs of two to three larger projects as well as the research group in general and the number of assignments will vary over time. It is therefore necessary that you are flexible in nature and are able to be responsible for several different projects in parallel and if necessary work under time pressure. Experience in scientific writing and literature studies are requirements. Experience in scientific and financial reporting as well as funding applications is meritorious. We attach great importance to your personal qualities and you must be independent, used to taking initiative and have the ability to lead and run projects and cooperate with researchers in a professional manner with minimal supervision. We think you like helping your colleagues and enjoying also others’ success. It is important that you are pedagogical, structured and that you can work effectively both individually and in groups. Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English is required for the position as well as good communication skills in writing and presenting. To enjoy this position, you should be prestigeless and not be afraid to make an effort whenever needed, whether it involves simple everyday or more advanced tasks.

Instructions for application:

Your application must contain: 1) A short letter describing yourself and why you are suitable for this position

2) CV (max 2 pages)

3) Publication list

4) A copy of your PhD degree and your grades

5) Name and contact details (address, e-mail address and telephone number) to at least two reference persons.
