The Institute for Housing and Urban Research (IBF) is a multidisciplinary research institute with a focus on housing and urban issues. IBF belongs to the Faculty of Social Sciences at Uppsala University and conducts research, in a broad sense, directed towards housing, the built environment, and urban issues. The institute employs around 40 people, among which the majority are researchers and PhD students. Project description and work assignments:
We are hiring a researcher to work in relation to the research project funded by FORMAS “The intersectional and sustainable impacts of housing movements: the Spanish case” (Ref. 2019-00349). This project aims at analysing the development of the Spanish housing movement and the political engagement of immigrants, women, and low-income citizens. In addition to investigate intersectionality and sustainability issues in relation to housing activism, the study will explain movements’ outcomes in terms of housing policies and its influential contexts. The researcher is expected to organize and develop the data collection and analysis according to the plans, with a strong focus on qualitative methods, and to produce academic outputs in collaboration with the principal investigator. The employment, which is permanent, is externally financed over a three-year period. Funds for travels and research expenses are also provided.

Required qualifications:

  • A PhD degree in sociology, political science, social geography or any other equivalent discipline.
  • Very good communication skills in English and Spanish.
  • Experience with qualitative research methods in social sciences.
  • Independent analytical ability.

Merits:

  • Previous knowledge of the Spanish housing movement.
  • Knowledge of theories on housing, social movements and political economy is highly desirable.
  • Great emphasis will be placed on personal suitability such as: flexibility, ability to prioritize, collaborative ability, organizational and administrative skills.
