The Department of Peace and Conflict Research was founded in 1971 with the purpose of conducting research and offering education within the field of peace and conflict studies. The department today is a young, dynamic, and international work place with approximately 80 employees and 300-400 students from all over the world. The department and the project “Expanding the Geocoded Peacekeeping Operations (Geo-PKO) Dataset” is now looking for a research assistant, for a 6 months full-time employment, starting in January 2020.

Tasks: The research assistant will work within the project “Expanding the Geocoded Peacekeeping Operations (Geo-PKO) Dataset”, with project leader Lisa Hultman.
The primary task is to go through maps to code the coordinates of the deployment of UN peacekeepers. Other tasks include analyzing the collected data, including presenting descriptive statistics and generating maps, as well as writing a policy brief. The position may come with additional administrative and analytical tasks within the project.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in peace and conflict studies.
  • Good skills in statistics and statistics software, including R.
  • Documented analytical skills.
  • Excellent proficiency in English.
  • Good ability to work both in a group and independently.


Additional merits: Master’s degree in peace and conflict studies as well as previous experience from similar research tasks.
