Uppsala University, Department of Chemistry - Ångström Laboratory

The Department of Chemistry - Ångström conducts research and education in the chemistry field. The department has more than 230 employees and has a turnover just over 220 million SEK. At the department's seven programs, we conduct very successful research of a high international standard. We have a large number of externally funded research projects, often with international cooperation and we see continued good growth in our subject area. The department has education assignments in engineering and civil engineering programs and master's programs. More information is available on our website.

Subject description: The Department of Chemistry – Ångström Laboratory has for many years hosted a research environment focused on the development of materials and their applications within the energy production area. We developed a novel solar cell concept, namely direct plasmonic solar cells, characterize them, evaluate and improve them concerning performance, and study fundamental chemical processes and properties using cutting edge steady-state and ultrafast spectroscopy. The research contains both fundamental and applied aspects.

Work duties: The work duties within this project comprise of synthesis of plasmonic nanoparticles, solar cell device fabrication and characterization, and fundamental understanding of the underlying charge dynamics and recombination processes with femtosecond laser spectroscopy techniques. The research is part of a joint industrial project, and will, therefore, be performed in collaboration with industrial partners.

Requirements:

Applicants must have:

  • A PhD within the field of Chemistry, Physics, Engineering, or other for the position relevant fields.
  • Very good oral and written proficiency in English.
  • Extensive research experience in the synthesis of nanomaterials.
  • Extensive research experience in ultrafast optical laser spectroscopy.
  • Extensive research experience in solar cell device fabrication.

Consideration will also be given to good collaborative skills, drive and independence, and how the applicant’s experience and skills complement and strengthen ongoing research within the department, and how they stand to contribute to its future development.

Uppsala University strives to be an inclusive workplace that promotes equal opportunities and attracts qualified candidates who can contribute to the University’s excellence and diversity. We welcome applications from all sections of the community and from people of all backgrounds.
