Nearly 70% of the annual turnover of Uppsala University is devoted to research and postgraduate education. More than 50% of the research budget is funded from external sources. Uppsala University has also other units supporting other activities such as spin-offs, patenting, H2020-related projects and innovative solutions towards the market. UU Innovation is for example among those units providing advice and support on issues related to IPRs, patents, data protections among others.

Project description: The Department of Earth Sciences at Uppsala University is coordinating the Europe-wide H2020 Research-Innovation-Action Smart Exploration (www.smartexploration.eu) project related to new exploration technologies of mineral resources. While the main focus is on geophysical instruments and methods covering a wide range from seismic to electromagnetic methods, there are also aspects related to geological and geochemical data and target generations. The department is the largest and broadest as such in Sweden and includes programs within Geophysics, Geology, Paleontology, Hydrology, Meteorology and Natural resources. It is located next to the Geological Survey of Sweden (SGU) and this allows a great level of interactions with the researchers from SGU.

Given the wide range of partners involved (e.g., universities, SMEs and mining companies) and exploration sites available, we require a manager with mineral exploration background (preferably geophysical) to support us in the coordination of the project.

Duties:

  • A fluent communication with the project principal investigator (PI), participants, and beneficiaries, on the project’s development and progress.
  • Making sure deliverable are in place on time, milestones are met, deliverable are quality controlled and according to the task expectations.
  • Plan for meetings and follow up on agenda and action items.
  • Support the principal investigator to fill the information required in the commission portal (publications, data information, analytic solutions).
  • Help to prepare the project final report (technical and financial), dissemination tour and other exploitation activities planned in the project,
  • Support promotional activities of the project together with the EAGE team leaders.
  • Supporting the project in capturing progress made through sensible charts and illustrations, knowledge and technological developments generated within it and ways to exploit them.
  • Reporting within and beyond the consortium when needed.
  • Represent the project at relevant events and clustering works.

Requirements: We are seeking a motivated candidate with strong interest in research and innovation, experienced in mineral exploration or geophysical instrumentation technologies who has an academic magister/master- or engineering degree, or equivalent, in geophysics, geology, physics, earth sciences or a related similar field (preferably with a MSc or PhD degree). Excellent oral and written proficiency in English is required. Excellent proficiency with software suitable for professional reporting or illustrations, communications, progress tracking, and presentations are needed.

Additional qualifications: Well-organized multi-tasking, flexible, proactive, responsible to promote project activities through innovative solutions and suggestions. Open-minded and a team player with high social skills. Experience in project management is a great merit.
