Uppsala University, Department of Pharmacy

The Uppsala University Drug Optimization and Pharmaceutical Profiling Platform (UDOPP) is located at the Department of Pharmacy, Uppsala University. The primary aim of UDOPP is to perform in silico and in vitro ADME (Absorption, Distribution, Metabolism and Excretion) investigations of hit collections and compound series during lead optimization in collaboration with academic research groups primarily in Sweden. The platform is also developing preclinical formulations and performs bioanalytical services. The platform was formed in 2009 and is supported by a research group performing cutting edge research in the ADME drug delivery field.

UDOPP participates in the Innovative Medicine Initiative (IMI), New Drugs for Bad Bugs (ND4BB) program, European Gram Negative Antibacterial Engine (ENABLE) consortium and is also a part of the SciLifeLab Drug Discovery and Development Platform (SciLifeLab DDD). For more information, please visit the following homepages at: http://nd4bb-enable.eu/ and http://farmaci.uu.se/research/drugdelivery/udoppeng/

The ENABLE consortium includes 42 partners from academia and private pharmaceutical companies which creates a cross-European drug discovery engine for testing and optimizing molecules which have the potential to become future drug candidates capable of treating resistant gram-negative infections (https://www.imi.europa.eu/content/enable). The UDOPP team is responsible for all in vitro ADME investigations within the ENABLE consortium.

We are now recruiting a highly motivated and flexible bioanalysis scientist to expand our capacity. The position will be located at the Uppsala University Drug Optimization and Pharmaceutical Profiling Platform (UDOPP), Department of Pharmacy. Further information about the department and the research groups can be found at www.farmfak.uu.se/farm/.

Purpose of the position is to provide scientific expertise and contribute to academic drug discovery (DD) projects ongoing at IMI, ENABLE consortium. The major objective is to run bioanalysis of in vitro ADME samples for small molecules drug candidates. The candidate’s role will also be to complement work of the ADME team with analytical expertise.

Duties: The selected candidate will be responsible for:

  • Sample preparation and quantitative analysis of in vitro and in vivo samples of small molecule using LC-MS/MS technique.
  • Develop and execute MS-based assays for metabolomic samples, processing and reporting of the results.
  • Ability to develop, evaluate and implement new technologies with focus on expanding the existing LC-IM-HRMS (liquid chromatography-ion mobility -high-resolution mass spectrometry) capacity.
  • Share analytical expertise with other members of the UDOPP team.

Day-to-day regular lab work including in vitro ADME within diverse drug discovery projects.

Requirements: A PhD in bioscience with a specific focus on bioanalysis of in vitro and in vivo samples using LC-MS/MS technique. In-depth knowledge and several years of practical experience working with liquid chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry such as e.g. common triple quadrupole system and Q-Exactive HF Orbitrap (Thermo Scientific) equipped with nano/micro LC, are a must.

Additional, hands-on experience with analytical software MassLynx, X-calibur, Analyst, analytical sample preparation and reporting of the analysis of test compounds in biological matrices are crucial.

The successful candidate should also be flexible and highly motivated, have good problem solving and time management skills, and have the capacity to work with tight deadlines. Good interpersonal and cooperation skill and ability to represent UDOPP/ ADME in interdisciplinary teams are essential.

Additional qualifications: Experience with metabolomics, biomarker and human plasma analysis is an advantage.

Uppsala University strives to be an inclusive workplace that promotes equal opportunities and attracts qualified candidates who can contribute to the University’s excellence and diversity. We welcome applications from all sections of the community and from people of all backgrounds.
