The Department of Immunology, Genetics and Pathology at Uppsala University (www.igp.uu.se) has a broad research profile with strong research groups focused on cancer, autoimmune and genetic diseases. A fundamental idea at the department is to stimulate translational research and thereby closer interactions between medical research and health care. Research is presently conducted in the following areas: medical and clinical genetics, clinical immunology, pathology, neuro-oncology, vascular biology, radiation science and molecular tools. Department activities are also integrated with the units for Oncology, Clinical Genetics, Clinical Immunology, Clinical Pathology, and Hospital Physics at Akademiska sjukhuset, Uppsala. The department has teaching assignments in several education programmes, including Master Programmes, at the Faculty of Medicine, and in a number of educations at the Disciplinary Domain of Science and Technology. The department has a yearly turnover of around SEK 400 million, out of which more than half is made up of external funding. The staff amounts to approximately 340 employees, out of which 100 are PhD-students, and there are in total more than 600 affiliated people.

A position as project coordinator is available in Dr Taija Mäkinen’s group at the Department of Immunology, Genetics and Pathology. The research group focuses on studying the regulation of the lymphatic vasculature using genetic mouse models and cell and molecular biology techniques. Work description:
The position as project coordinator within Taija Mäkinen’s group will have two main responsibilities of equal importance.
The first area is two take an active part in the writing and coordination of both national and international applications for research funding and in the preparation of scientific papers and other types of scientific reports. The project coordinator will also provide administrative support in the planning and organization of scientific meetings e.g. do bookings for travel, food, accommodation and social activities.
The second area is to function as the main responsible organizer of laboratory infrastructure to ensure laboratory functionality. To this end the project coordinator will be supervising and lead technical staff in their work, oversee that orders are timely placed and that technical apparatus are in an operative status. Furthermore, the coordinator will be supervising hands on work with laboratory animals, making sure that animal staff have the resources to fulfil their tasks, be responsible for maintenance of a mouse colony database, its upgrades and also to educate new users. Finally, the project coordinator will be involved in the writing of ethical permits for the use of laboratory animals as well as helping out with import and export of laboratory animals.
Additional tasks will be to provide experimental support to the various research project conducted, specifically by doing FACS analysis and cell sorting.

Qualifications:
- The successful candidate most hold a PhD in a relevant discipline and have experience of experimental vascular biology research.
- Documented experience of writing scientific reports, papers and applications.
- Documented experience of people management and of administrative work within an academic university setting.
- Extensive experience and knowledge on practical work with laboratory animals, ethical permit applications and the legislation concerning work with laboratory animals.
- The position as project coordinator requires high organization skills and the ability to work independently. In addition, to be successful in this position the applicant must be able to communicate and interact with several other disciplines e.g. researchers, fiscal office, technical service engineers and others. Hence, personal traits such as communication skills, service minded and technical understanding are important.
- Good Swedish and English writing and communication skills are required.

Merits:
Highly meriting is a professional experience as a laboratory manager or similar.
Hands-on experience of FACS analysis on the FACS Aria and Fortessa platforms.
Experience with Filemaker databases.
