The Department of Immunology, Genetics and Pathology at Uppsala University (www.igp.uu.se) has a broad research profile with strong research groups focused on cancer, autoimmune and genetic diseases. A fundamental idea at the department is to stimulate translational research and thereby closer interactions between medical research and health care. Research is presently conducted in the following areas: medical and clinical genetics, clinical immunology, pathology, neuro-oncology, vascular biology, radiation science and molecular tools. Department activities are also integrated with the units for Oncology, Clinical Genetics, Clinical Immunology, Clinical Pathology, and Hospital Physics at Akademiska sjukhuset, Uppsala. The department has teaching assignments in several education programmes, including Master Programmes, at the Faculty of Medicine, and in a number of educations at the Disciplinary Domain of Science and Technology. The department has a yearly turnover of around SEK 400 million, out of which more than half is made up of external funding. The staff amounts to approximately 340 employees, out of which 100 are PhD-students, and there are in total more than 600 affiliated people.

Duties: We seek two highly motivated postdoctoral scientists to join the Human Protein Atlas team in Uppsala, with projects aiming at developing and apply antibody-based, multiplexed imaging tools to build high-resolution protein maps of human tissues. Main emphasis will be put on male and female reproductive organs for further understanding of their transcriptome and proteome in health and disease. The projects will include analysis of both transcriptomics and proteomics data and development of in-house protocols and organ-specific antibody panels for immunofluorescence in tissues and their application to build cell type-specific spatial maps of human reproductive organs. The work will be performed under the supervision of Dr. Cecilia Lindskog Bergström in close collaboration with the Human Protein Atlas project (www.proteinatlas.org), that has the overall aim of mapping all human proteins in tissues, organs, cells and organelles. The Human Protein Atlas project is a multidisciplinary project with several platforms across 4 Swedish universities offering state-of-the art high-throughput technologies for analysis of human tissues and cells. The Uppsala group consists of 16 research engineers, PhD-students and researchers. The postdoctoral projects will involve collaborations with researchers both within and outside Sweden, including work as part of an EU consortium focusing on generating a high-resolution map of human uterus across the menstrual cycle and life-span.

Requirements: PhD in biomedicine, molecular biology, biotechnology, cell biology or a related field. Practical experience in both laboratory work and data analysis. Solid knowledge of molecular biology is required. We seek a candidate with an innovative mind, a broad interest in proteomic and transcriptomic technologies, and with a publication record. We are looking for someone with good oral and written skills in English, a strong sense of responsibility, and ability to work independently in a fast paced and multidisciplinary environment.

Additional qualifications: Experience with programming in R, e.g. analysis of RNA or proteomics data. A PhD in proteomics, or the field of male or female reproductive biology. Documented skills in method/protocol development. Major emphasis will be placed on personal characteristics, e.g. motivation, positive attitude, communication skills and interpersonal skills.
