Uppsala University, Department of Peace and Conflict Research

The Department of Peace and Conflict Research was established in 1971 to conduct peace research and offer Courses in peace and conflict studies. Currently approx. 80 persons are employed at the Department and at present some 300-400 students are enrolled every academic year. Courses offered include undergraduate and post-graduate courses, as well as a Ph. D. programme. More information about the department can be found here; www.pcr.uu.se

For the department and for the project ”Climate Change, Food Insecurity and Violent Conflict”, we now seek to hire a researcher for a full-time, time limited employment.

Work description
The researcher will work on the association between climate change, local institutions and armed conflict. Specifically, the researcher will work together with other researchers within the project ”Climate Change, Food Insecurity and Violent Conflict” on the relationship between climate change and armed conflict. The research will predominantly be quantitative in nature. Other assignments could include presenting the research in English on different seminars and conferences, data management in GIS and advanced statistical software as well as some administrative tasks. The position may entail teaching at the undergraduate- and/or graduate-levels, and other administrative tasks, up to 20% of the successful applicant’s work-time.

Qualifications and required skills

  • PhD in Peace and Conflict Studies or Political Science
  • Documented experience from academic research on the security implications of climate change
  • Very good skills in English.

Personal suitability will be of importance, in addition to academic merits.  


Additional qualifications/Qualification desired

  • Experience from collecting and managing quantitative data
  • Experience from working with geo-referenced data using GIS software.
