A position as a postdoctoral researcher in biogeochemistry/microbial ecology is available in the Limnology program of the Department of Ecology and Genetics, specify the program.

The limnology program conducts research and teaching on the ecology and biogeochemistry of inland waters, from microscopic to global scale.

Project description: The postdoc will work in a collaborative research group focusing on the persistence and degradation of organic matter in aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems. The project spans across a broad set of disciplines and fields of expertize, including geochemistry, microbial ecology, analytical chemistry, and aquatic as well as terrestrial ecosystem science. The research aims to understand how the stability of organic matter is controlled by environmental factors, microbial functional diversity, and the chemical diversity of organic matter. The position includes supervision of PhD and MSc students. The project is funded by the Swedish Research Council, and by The Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation.

Qualifications required: For this position the candidate must hold a PhD degree within a field of relevance for biogeochemistry or microbial ecology. The candidate is expected to take initiatives and develop the project, in collaboration with other project participants as well as with external partners, nationally and internationally. To be qualified, experience and knowledge is required in one or or several of the following fields: analytical chemistry, geochemistry, microbial ecology, limnology and marine ecology, soil science, ecosystem science. Candidates must be able to express themselves very well in spoken as well as written English. In the evaluation of candidates, we will emphasize personal qualities such as independence and teamwork skills.

To be eligible the candidate must have a PhD degree, or a foreign degree equivalent to this, completed less than three years before the application deadline. The three year period can be extended due to circumstances such as sick leave, parental leave, duties in labour unions, etc.
