Uppsala University, Department of Earth Sciences

The Department of Earth Sciences is an international environment with staff and students from all over the world. Our research ranges from the Earth's core to the atmosphere, from microscopic minerals and fossils to the formation of mountains and oceans, and in time from the formation of the Earth up to the processes currently reshaping the planet.

A position of a Researcher in Experimental Mineralogy is available at the Department of Earth Sciences, www.geo.uu.se, research program Mineralogy, Petrology and Tectonics.

Project description:

The project focuses on a development of new beneficiation process of rare earth elements (REE) from apatite group minerals. It involves detailed characterization of REE-bearing apatite group minerals from natural occurrences using high resolution analytical methods as well as leaching experiments and detailed characterization of their products. Candidates with solid background in experimental mineralogy are encouraged to apply for this position.

Duties:

The position involves both field and laboratory work, the organization and collection of data and its processing. The candidate will be also responsible for samples collection and preparation for experiments. Some laboratory experiments will involve working in a contamination free environment.
