The Department of Literature provides education in Literature, Rhetoric, Scandinavian Studies and Swedish (within the Teacher Training Program) as well as research in Literature, Rhetoric, and Subject Education.

Duties: Employment includes research, teaching and administration. The position primarily comprises teaching and supervision in Literature on all courses in the first- and second-cycle, especially within Sociology of literature. Educational duties also include course coordination and course administration. Teaching and supervision in the third-cycle can be included. Duties also comprise the admission to follow developments within the subject field of Literature, as well as developments in society relevant for the working tasks at the University. The employment also includes applications for research funding, as well as outreach to the surrounding society. The employment might include commissions as Head of Subject or departmental management.

Qualification requirements: In order to be employed as Senior Lecturer, the applicant must have completed a doctoral degree in Literature or have the equivalent academic skills. The applicant must show teaching ability and have the personal characteristics necessary to successfully conduct employment tasks.

Evidence of teaching and learning expertise is essential; academic and professional ability are relevant to the subject content of the employment and the duties that will be included in the appointment. To be eligible for the position, documented evidence of teaching, research and outreach within the field of Sociology of Literature is required, especially with respect to the content of the courses mentioned below (Educational expertise).

Evidence of teaching and learning ability includes completion of relevant teacher training, comprising a minimum of ten weeks, or the equivalent. Should special reasons exist, academic teacher training may be conducted during the first two years of employment.

To be eligible for the position, documented evidence of teaching ability in both Swedish and English is required.

Assessment criteria: In the selection of eligible applicants, equal importance will be placed on research expertise and teaching and learning ability.

Research expertise: In the assessment of research expertise, proficiency - i.e. quality of research - will be taken into account. The research´s scope, both breadth and depth, shall also be assigned significance. Furthermore, significance will be placed on the ability to plan, initiate, lead and develop research and doctoral education and to obtain research funding in competition, as will the ability to interact both within the discipline and society as a whole. Documented experience of applying for and obtaining research funding in competition and evidence of research collaborations are of merit.

Educational expertise: When assessing teaching and learning skills, the primary emphasis is to be placed on quality. Teaching and learning skills must be well-documented. Scope, both breadth and depth, shall be assigned significance. Importance will also be attached to the ability to plan, initiate, lead and develop education and teaching, including supervision and examination on all levels, as will also the ability to conduct research-based education. This includes the ability to interact with academic teacher training matters with actors within and outside of the University.

Special value will be attached to assessing the applicant’s ability to teach and supervise within the fields of book market history, the social history and the sociology of literature. Teaching includes recurring courses oriented towards the Sociology of Literature, currently primarily the courses Sociology of Literature and Popular Literature (C-level) and several courses oriented towards publishing studies (Master´s level). Teaching courses oriented towards publishing studies demands documented knowledge on the Swedish book market, viewed from an international, comparative perspective.

An equal amount of care will be devoted to the review of educational expertise as to research expertise.

Assessment criteria – other skills: Administrative and leadership skills are significant to the position and will be assigned considerable importance.

Administrative skill is demonstrated among other things through the ability to plan, organize and prioritize the work in an effective manner adapted to the purpose and through an ability to provide and keep time frames. This skill includes overall activity planning and an ability to manage resources in a manner that reflects the activities’ priorities, as well as an ability to work in a structured manner and based on an awareness of goals and quality.

Leadership skills are shown through the ability to lead the organization and staff, make decisions, take responsibility, motivate and provide others with the conditions necessary to effectively achieve common goals. Further examples include the ability to coordinate groups as well as encourage motivation, participation and job satisfaction, and the ability to manage conflicts.

The ability to interact with the community and share information about research and development will also be considered. The ability to share information about research and development work can be shown by work with popular science, for example participating in popular education, publications of popular science articles and through participation in public debate on research and education issues. The applicant should be prepared to take on commissions as manager and editor within the field of Sociology of literature.

When the university is to appoint new teachers, the applicants are to be selected who, through a qualitative assessment of the whole picture regarding competence and skills, are considered to have the best qualifications for the implementation and development of the tasks in question, and for contributing to a positive development of the activities.

The Recruitment Committee may use interviews, trial lectures and the taking of references. Hence, the applicant must submit a list of reference persons who can provide information about their professional skills and personal qualities that are relevant to the position, such as interpersonal skills, the ability to lead and the working methods they use.

Personal circumstances (such as parental leave, part-time work due to caring for children, union work, military service or the like) that in the qualification assessment can be counted in favour of the applicant should be indicated in connection with the presentation of qualifications and experience.
