Uppsala universitet,

The Department of Earth Sciences at Uppsala University, where the project will be conducted, is one of the largest and scientifically broadest Earth Science Department in Sweden and includes research programmes in Mineralogy, petrology and tectonics, Geophysics, Palaeobiology, Hydrogeology, Meteorology and Natural resource science.

Duties:

Research within the EU Horizon 2020 X-Mine-project, including ore mineralogy – ore petrography and microchemical analyses together with geochronology and 3D modelling, conducted in collaboration with geophysical investigations and development of novel sensor technology. The aim of this part of the project is to i) understand mineralogical and trace element variations in polymetallic sulphide deposits in 3D, ii) establish the relationship between ore mineralogy/metal tenors and deformation iii) identify and characterise the host phases for critical metals in the investigated deposits. We look for a junior researcher with the ability to publish the results in both high-ranking journals and as technical reports demanded by the project.

Requirements:

PhD in economic geology and publications in relevant scientific journals. Experience in ore mineralogy and ore petrography and EMP and LA-ICPMS analysis of polymetallic sulphide assemblages and innovative analytical techniques or their applications, stable isotope geochemistryfluid inclusion studies and a valid driving license. Documented experience of critical metal research, other analytical techniques (e.g. SWIRRaman, mineral cathodoluminescence) and on mineralisations in the Bergslagen ore province will be an advantage.
