Uppsala University, Department of Medical Sciences

Do you want to work in one of the world's fastest growing technology areas? We seek a highly motivated postdoctoral scientist to join the Research and Development (R&D) team at the SNP&SEQ Technology Platform at the Department of Medical Sciences (IMV), which is located the Uppsala University Biomedical Center (BMC).

As part of the National Genomics Infrastructure (NGI) at Science for Life Laboratory (SciLifeLab, www.scilifelab.com), the SNP&SEQ Technology Platform offers state-of-the-art next generation sequencing technology (NGS) and SNP genotyping as a service for researchers within and outside Sweden (www.sequencing.se).

Description of work

The work responsibilities include development and implementation of single-cell sequencing technologies for genomic studies of individual cells in research projects that analyse samples from clinical patient cohorts. The work will be conducted in close collaboration with the research group in Molecular Medicine and other groups at our department that are focusing on leukemia and/or autoimmune disease genetics. The successful applicant is expected to perform wet-lab experiments as well as bioinformatics tasks, such as running pipelines, quality control and downstream analysis of single-cell -omics data. Writing publishable reports of the methodology and results of the analysis will be part of the work as well as presenting projects at scientific conferences and meetings. The postdoctoral researcher will have opportunities to develop their skills through courses and collaborations with national and international research groups and core facilities.

Required qualifications

PhD in genetics, genomics, molecular biology, cell biology, bioinformatics or a related field and practical experience in both laboratory work and analysis of next generation (NGS) sequencing data. Solid knowledge of molecular biology is required. We seek a candidate with an innovative mind and a broad interest in genomic technologies and with a publication record, preferably in the field of NGS. We are looking for someone with excellent oral and written skills in English, a strong sense of responsibility, and ability to work in a fast paced environment.

Other desired merits

Experience with programming in R, working in the LINUX/UNIX environment, and analysis of RNA sequencing, exome sequencing, whole genome sequencing or whole genome bisulfite sequencing data is desired. Documented skills in method/protocol development is an advantage. Major emphasiswill be placed onpersonal characteristics, such as a positive attitude and good interpersonal skills.
