The Department of Medical Biochemistry and Microbiology at Uppsala University has a strong and international research and teaching environment with over 250 scientists, including around 40 PhD students. Research focuses on three domains: Biochemistry/Molecular Cell Biology, Genomics, and Microbiology/Immunology.

Project description: The research group where the candidate will be working studies mechanisms and dynamics of molecular evolution in bacteria, with a focus on evolution of antibiotic resistance. The goal of this project is to study how selective pressures and genetic variability influences the tempo and mode of resistance evolution. Of particular interest will be the mechanisms and clinical relevance of heteroresistance.
