The Department of Modern Languages has around 60 employees who conduct research and education in several languages and literatures. There are four main research areas: Finno-Ugric languages, German, Romance languages, and Slavic languages. Both earlier and later language stages are studied and the theoretical and methodological scope is wide. Information about research at the department can be found here.

The Department of Modern Languages announces a a two year postdoctoral position oriented towards linguistics or literature.

Duties: The applicant is expected to do mainly her/his own research, including applications for external funding. In addition, 20 % of the duty includes duties at the department (e.g. teaching). As an employee at the department, you are expected to participate actively in the department’s seminar series and in other ways, by being present, to contribute to the research environment at the department.    

Requirements: To qualify for an employment as a postdoctor you must have a PhD degree or a foreign degree equivalent to a PhD degree in one of the department’s research subjects, Finno-Ugric languages, German, Romance languages or Slavic languages. The PhD degree must have been obtained no more than three years prior to the application deadline. The three year period can be extended due to circumstances such as sick leave, parental leave, duties in labour unions, etc. 

Selection: Following the qualitative holistic assessment of competence and expertise, the applicant who is judged to have the best potential to carry out her/his research project and to apply for external funding will be selected.

Application: The application should, in addition to your application letter and CV, contain a list of your publications, a brief description of your research project and your doctoral diploma, and possibly a list of your external research funding.
