Work description: We are looking for a skillful, ambitious and highly motivated researcher/post-doc to work within Sören Lehmann’s hematological research group in close collaboration with the cardiovascular epidemiology research group at Department of Medical Sciences at Uppsala University. The project will study the role of clonal hematopoiesis for the risk of developing hematological malignancies and cardiovascular disease. The research will be focused on interdisciplinary molecular epidemiology detecting mutations in large population-based cohorts studying the risk of outcomes such as leukemia and various manifestations of atherosclerosis. The work will be performed in collaboration with national sequencing facilities.

Work environment: The immediate research environment is the translational acute leukemia research group of Sören Lehmann. The group works with basic as well as translational and clinical research, especially focused on Acute Myeloid Leukemia. This is an inspiring and interdisciplinary work environment which includes basic scientists as well as clinical doctors and biostatisticians. This specific project will be performed in close collaboration with the cardiovascular epidemiology research group of Lars Lind at the same institution at Uppsala University. Prof. Lind’s research group is internationally leading with in its field. The SciLifeLab in Uppsala and Stockholm will be important collaborators in this project and both the Lehmann and Lind groups have extensive national and international collaborations.

Qualifications: The position requires a PhD or a foreign degree equivalent to a PhD. We especially welcome young investigators with a recent PhD degree to apply for the position. The passed PhD should be within a relevant research subject such as genetics, molecular biology, molecular epidemiology, cancer genetics and/or molecular cardiology or hematology. Desired skills include experience in handling biological samples, DNA separation, DNA sequencing and processing DNA sequencing data. Some experience in epidemiology and/or statistics is a strength. An emphasis will be given to scientific excellence within the field as well as organization and cooperation skills.
