Uppsala University, Department of Chemistry - BMC

The Department of Chemistry – BMC is located at the Uppsala Biomedical Centre campus. It belongs to the Faculty of Science and Technology and conducts research in analytical chemistry, biochemistry, and organic chemistry. The research in analytical chemistry is focused on method development and omics applications of biological samples using high resolution mass spectrometry. The environment is creative and research intense and has both broad knowledge base and cutting edge expertise.

The position as postdoctoral researcher is in the group of Dr. Ingela Lanekoff. The position is part of an externally funded project for developments in ambient single cell analysis and mass spectrometry imaging based on nanospray desorption electrospray ionization (nano-DESI) mass spectrometry.

Duties/Project description
The successful candidate will be involved in developing and applying techniques for single analysis and mass spectrometry imaging of small biomolecules from tissue sections and cells. In addition, the postdoctoral researcher will be use strategies to handle and understand large untargeted datasets for small molecules, such as metabolites, and collaborate with students and researchers from various fields.

Requirements

  • PhD in chemistry or a related subject. The PhD degree should have been obtained no more than three years prior to the application deadline. The three-year period can be extended on special circumstances, such as prolonged periods of illness, parental leave, military service, union duties, and others of similar character.

To be successful in collaborations we are looking for a result-oriented team player who has the ability to take initiative, responsibility, and work in a structured manner.

Additional qualifications

  • Experience of mass spectrometry analysis of metabolites and/or lipids
  • Experience of handling and analyzing biological material such as tissue and single cells
  • Experience of method/technique development for surface based bioanalysis
  • Programming skills for data handling, for example MATLAB.

Application
Submit the application containing your CV including a full publication list, a personal letter, and a short (max 1 page) description of your potential future contributions to the research field of ambient surface sampling mass spectrometry. The application will be evaluated based on the following criteria: appropriate education, experiences and work/research in related fields, and research ideas to further the field. Emphasis will also be placed on personal skills.
