The Department of Earth Sciences is one of the most complete such academic departments in Europe. Our research focuses on subjects that range from the Earth’s core to the atmosphere, on scales from submicroscopic structures in minerals to the formation of mountains and oceans. We have teaching at undergraduate and graduate levels. Our courses offer a wide range within the geoscience area and several of the department's programs have received the highest rating in evaluations by the Swedish National Agency for Higher Education (Högskoleverket) and the Swedish Higher Education Authority (Universitetskanslersämbetet). The Centre for Environment and Development Studies, CEMUS, has since the start 1992 done student-led education within the broad and interdisciplinary environmental and sustainability area. Read more about our educational model and courses at www.cemus.uu.se/education.

Work tasks: 

The work entails coordination, including planning, administration, delivery and after-reporting of the course The Global Economy – Environment, Development and Globalization, 15 credits (www.cemus.uu.se/gec). You will work together with a colleague and in close collaboration with guest lecturers, the course work group (consisting of experienced university teachers, researchers and professors), CEMUS director of studies and educational coordinators. The work consists of contacts with guest lecturers and students, as well as individual work such as course planning, literature, preparation of seminars, workshops and course administration. Part of the work is also to creatively build on experiences from previous course runs and pass on one’s own experiences to future course coordinators.

Qualifications: 

Ongoing university studies (higher education), preferably within sustainable development. Good computer skills and good English skills in speech and writing are necessary. The work places high demands on collaborative ability and the ability to independently run and complete tasks within given time frames, including times of temporary work peaks.

Desirable/other merits: 

Work life experience from work with student-led courses and experience of student activating teaching methods is also a merit. Due to the planning process of this course being shorter than normal it’s meriting if you have participated in the course as a student.

Conditions: 

An employment as teaching assistant (amanuens) is regulated in the Swedish higher education act chapter 5 (Högskoleförordningen, HF 5 kap). Only persons admitted to an undergraduate/bachelor level or masters level education can be employed as an amanuens/teaching assistant (HF 5 kap §10).

The application must include a letter of intent comprised of a description of why you are applying to the position and your experience of similar work tasks. The application should also include a CV and a certificate with study results from Studentportalen or similar.

Considerable emphasis will be attached to personal suitability, such as the ability to take own initiatives and to be able to solve problems in a way that is constructive for the business.

Salary: Fixed salary according to agreement with the union.
