Uppsala University, Department of Game Design

The Department of Game Design’s activities are all located at Campus Gotland in Visby. The Department offers international and national study programmes in game design at Bachelor and Master degree level (first and second cycle respectively) and freestanding courses in game design, expression and game programming. Research in game design and related areas is under way.

Duties

The appointment involves teaching, including course coordination, development and administrative work. The teaching is carried out on the campus, primarily in the Bachelor Programme in Game Design and Project Management, and preferably in project management and agile methodologies. The appointee must, moreover, be prepared to take part in the Department’s internal work and to undertake assignments as programme coordinator, director of studies or equivalent. Duties also include monitoring, first, development in the appointee’s own subject area and, second, overall social trends with a bearing on work at the University.

Active participation in the Department’s work requires regular presence at the workplace.

Eligibility requirements

The minimum requirements for the appointment are a Bachelor degree with subject specialisation in game design or another area considered by the employer to be relevant to the appointment; academic teacher training of at least ten weeks’ duration, or corresponding knowledge, and demonstrated teaching expertise; and in general the ability necessary to perform the duties of the appointment well. If special reasons apply, the appointee may attend the academic teacher training during the first year of employment. Ability to teach in English is a requirement.

Assessment criteria

The criteria are documented experience of teaching in project management in the area of game design; thoroughness; skill in cooperating with others; experience of a project-oriented way of working; and good self-expression in spoken and written English. Particular emphasis will be laid on teaching expertise, which means that an applicant who is a more accomplished teacher will take precedence over one with greater research expertise.

In this recruitment, the University will mainly consider candidates who, after an overall assessment of their expertise and teaching skill, as well as documented qualifications, are judged to have the best capacity to implement and develop the duties concerned and contribute to favourable development of the work.

A complete application should be submitted through Uppsala University’s online recruitment system. It should comprise:

  • Letter of application
  • Curriculum Vitae (CV)
  • Account of teaching qualifications and experience

  • Academic works and any educational works cited.
