Uppsala University, Department of Peace and Conflict Research

The Department of Peace and Conflict Research was established in 1971 to conduct peace  research and offer Courses in peace and conflict studies. Currently approx. 80 persons are employed at the Department and at present some 300-400 students are enrolled every academic year. Courses offered include undergraduate and post-graduate courses, as well as a Ph. D. programme. For more information, visit http://www.pcr.uu.se.

The department is now looking for a research assistant for a full-time one year employment, starting 1 September 2019.


Duties:

The majority of the employment (70%) involves research-related tasks in the project "The civilian dimension of peacekeeping operations and human rights promotion" with project leader Sabine Otto. Tasks may include; literature review support, data collection of data on civilian dimension of peacekeeping operations; compilation and initial analysis of collected information, feedback on and editing article manuscripts.

A smaller part of the employment (30%), will be to support the Uppsala Rotary Peace Center Director with administrative tasks in the daily operations. Tasks may include; coordinating meetings, events and marketing activities; giving presentations/public speaking; producing informational materials; providing support for Uppsala Rotary Peace Fellows, local and international Rotarians; administer routines for follow-up and contact with alumni.  

Requirements:

  • Bachelor degree in Political Science or in a related area
  • Proficiency in English
  • Prior experience with data collection and knowledge of international intervention literature
  • Basic knowledge about social media and the Microsoft Office package.

It is furthermore very important that the applicant can work systematically and has an eye for details, is able to meet deadlines and has good interpersonal skills. To be able to work both in a group and individually is also important.


Additional qualifications:

  • Master degree in political science or Peace and Conflict
  • Prior working experience in peace and conflict related organization
  • Initial experience with R
  • Knowledge of Rotary's peace fellowship program
