Area of responsibilities/description of the work
The Department of Medical Sciences, Uppsala University, has an opening for a 2-year position as a combined position as bioinformatician and biostatistician in the group of Molecular Epidemiology. The group, consisting of about ten persons is located within the new Epidemiology Hub at Dag Hammarskölds väg 14, where about 35 active epidemiologists and statisticians have their work place, enabling collaboration and support.
The work will be supervised by group leader Professor Tove Fall. Tove Fall and her group are mainly working with diabetes and diabetes-related traits using a variety of methods, ranging from modern molecular epidemiology techniques with –omics data to more traditional epidemiology approaches in large datasets. The research environment is international with English being the working language. See tovefall.se for more information and recent publications. The group currently includes several members with thorough training and experience in advanced statistical, epidemiological and bioinformatics methods.
The primary work responsibility will be to perform genetic association analyses regarding body fat distribution and other bioinformatic tasks such as quality control and normalization procedures of –omics data. The applicant will be responsible to write publishable reports of the methodology and results of the analysis. An important part of the work will also be to advice junior colleagues on bioinformatical and statistical matters. The main statistical software used in the group are Stata and R. For some tasks, novel development of software packages within the R framework might be needed. The employee will be able to develop their skills through courses and also exchange visits with other research groups.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate is highly motivated with thorough experience within bioinformatical and statistical analysis of human data. This experience should be documented through a large number scientific peer-reviewed publications. Since an important part of the work is to supervise PhD students and post-docs, extensive teaching experience within statistical modelling and bioinformatics at university is necessary.

Knowledge in epidemiology and/or medicine is an advantage.
