2 year Postdoctoral position in Industrial Engineering & Management (with specialization Ethics and philosophy of innovation and industrial development)

Values in innovation and industrial development: ethics and industrial analytics

Although innovation and industrial development concern a wide range of aspects, spanning over technical, economic, social and environmental characteristics, much theorizing on innovation focus on theories from technology, business and management studies, and to some extent social theory. This has led to a neglect for the visions and values guiding innovation and industrial development. To be able to understand such visions and values is crucial both to descriptively understand the present as well as to normatively produce innovation and industrial development that is building a society we would like to envision. To address this lacuna, this research project is inspired by ethics and philosophy, which offer ways of thinking as well as more practical tools to both analyse and to embed visions and values in innovations.

The postdoc will develop the area of ethics in industrial analytics. Industrial analytics will be a central area within the Department of Engineering sciences, and the research will be done in collaboration with the Dept of Information Technology, and various corporate actors. Given the scarce research about the topic, a main point is to explore the ethics issues in the development and application of industrial analytics. The method is to study existing research, and to conduct interviews with central stakeholders, such as corporate actors. This project will not only produce research papers but also contribute to the educational programs related to industrial analytics at Uppsala University.

Departmental duties, usually teaching, will require up to 20% of employment. More information about postgraduate positions are available on the Department's website, http://www.teknik.uu.se and technical science faculty website http://www.teknat.uu.se. The ranking of eligible applicants will be based primarily on research and teaching expertise, which will be given equal importance. Research expertise comprises research merits as well as the applicant´s potential to contribute to the future development of both research and teaching.
