Uppsala University, Department of Immunology, Genetics and Pathology

The Department of Immunology, Genetics and Pathology at Uppsala University (www.igp.uu.se) has a broad research profile with strong research groups focused on cancer, autoimmune and genetic diseases. A fundamental idea at the department is to stimulate translational research and thereby closer interactions between medical research and health care. Research is presently conducted in the following areas: medical and clinical genetics, clinical immunology, pathology, neuro-oncology, vascular biology, radiation science and molecular tools. Department activities are also integrated with the units for Oncology, Clinical Genetics, Clinical Immunology, Clinical Pathology, and Hospital Physics at Akademiska sjukhuset, Uppsala. The department has teaching assignments in several education programmes, including Master Programmes, at the Faculty of Medicine, and in a number of educations at the Disciplinary Domain of Science and Technology. The department has a yearly turnover of around SEK 400 million, out of which more than half is made up of external funding. The staff amounts to approximately 340 employees, out of which 100 are PhD-students, and there are in total more than 600 affiliated people.

Duties:
Research Engineer (RE) position in Lymphatic Laboratory. This position is to manage, organise laboratory and to support the research activates in the laboratory. The successful candidate must be experienced in managing the laboratory databases (animal and reagents), organising shipments, ordering consumables, maintaining animal stocks both zebrafish and mice. This position also will involve the generation of transgenic animals, technical assistance in micro-manipulation, and technical support in on-going studies. There will also be a scope to develop own, focused projects in the future.

Requirements:
BSc or MSc degree in biology, molecular biology or biotechnology; or equivalent. Certificates for animal laboratory work, including the Swedish animal legislation course. Experience in animal work both zebrafish and mice, colony/lines management including tissue sampling, and ethics applications and animal annual reporting. Extensive experience with microscopy. Experience in molecular biology techniques (DNA/RNA extraction, plasmid generation) and genotyping and KASP and FLA technology and cloning. Essential knowledge in generating transgenic animals both zebrafish and mouse (Pro-nuclear microinjection and embryo transfers, CRISPR technology, and fluorescent microscopy). Excellent skills in the generation of mosaic models with microinjection and cell transplantation techniques. Experience in sample preparation for single-cell sequencing experiments, including embryo microdissection, zebrafish embryo dissociation.
This position will require excellent organization and management skills, and with previous experience as laboratory manager (including equipment purchase and consumables ordering and maintaining the stocks). Knowledge of FileMaker database system, inducing the generation of new databases. In addition, experience in supervision and teaching new personnel the techniques used in the lab will be required. Ability to work both independently and in a team and excellent English Communication skills are crucial. International work experience is favourable.
