Uppsala University, Department of Pharmaceutical Biosciences

Department of Pharmaceutical Biosciences has 140 employees and a number of visiting researchers and fellow students. The department has twelve research groups with a common administration and we are doing research and teaching in pharmaceutical cell biology / biochemistry, pharmacology, pharmaceutical and drug addiction, pharmacotherapy, pharmacokinetics, pharmacometry, clinical pharmacy, bioinformatics, imaging mass spectrometry, molecular neuropharmacology, immunology, biological drugs / biotechnology as well as toxicology and drug safety. More information about the department and its activities can be found at www.farmbio.uu.se.

Research group in Medical mass spectrometry.

Duties/Project description: We will develop methods to characterize molecular interactions between secreted neuropeptides, peptide hormones and their cognate receptors with mass spectrometry.

You are expected to conduct advanced research within medical mass spectrometry, by construction of novel interfaces that enable studies of ligand–receptor interactions, both with quantitative and qualitative analysis. You will work with  biological cells for overexpression of target membrane proteins such as G-protein coupled receptors and ion channels. This is an important part of the project to increase our knowledge about the structure–function relationship of these receptors. Instrumentally the project will be conducted on nanoLC/CE-ESI-MS in combination with molecular labeling such as HDX.

This project is financed by the Swedish Research Council with the long-term aim to generate novel biological therapeutics.

Requirements: Suitable background is a degree from the program in chemistry or biology, engineering program in chemistry or biotechnology, pharmacist or other similar training (at least 240 credits).

Information about research-level education, eligibility requirements, and admission regulations can be found at hhttp://www2.medfarm.uu.se/utbildning/forskarniva/.
