The Department of Organismal Biology teaches and explores the evolution, development and function on the organismal level. For more information see www.iob.uu.se.

Duties: Sampling fossil material for isotopic and elemental studies, including shark spines, teeth, fish scales and early tetrapod remains. For analysis of elemental and isotope composition. Assistance with in-situ geochemical data acquisition, SIMS and LA-ICPMS, located in Naturhistoriska riksmuset in Stockholm. Treatment of geochemical data: managing databases, generating graphical summaries.

Requirements: Master’s degree in Palaeobiology, with specialization in vertebrate palaeontology. Experience with fossil sampling for mass spectrometry, such as bulk sampling for IRMS, or sample preparations for in-situ laser ablation or ion-microprobe analyses. Experience with geochemical data: managing data bases, imaging and presentation of results. Proficiency in MS Excel and PowerPoint. 

Additional qualifications: Basic knowledge and understanding of mass-spectrometry techniques, in particular Secondary Ion (SIMS), Thermal Combustion Elemental Analyser (TCEA-MS) and Laser Ablasion Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass-spectrometry (LA-ICPMS). Experience performing conventional or in-situ geochemical micro-analyses would be an advantage
