Uppsala University, Department of Neuroscience

The research performed at the department of Neuroscience covers the normal function of the nervous system, its development as well as how function of the nervous system is altered following injury and in disease, and how to improve treatment of patients with these disorders. In addition, studies are carried out on genetic and acquired factors that can give rise to or contribute to nervous system disorders and underlie personality disorders (e.g. drug abuse, criminality).

This group does not respond as well to current therapy and risks livelong symptoms. This project aims to better identify this group and to examine potential causes for the inflammation.

“Uppsala Psychiatric Patient samples” (UPP) was initiated in October 2012 and is a longitudinal biobank with material and data from well over 1000 young adults with psychiatric disorders linked to Gold standard psychiatric diagnosis. The collection has controls and four patient subgroups. This expanding material is unique in Sweden and is extremely rare internationally.
