Resarcher, specializing in the design, development and analysis of computational business models of Antibiotic R&D.

This announcement concerns a three-year Post-Doctoral position in Information Systems to expand the remit of the completed project “Driving Re-Investment in R&D and Responsible Antibiotic Use” funded by the EU public-private partnership Innovative Medicines Initiative. The successful candidate will work on two distinct projects, complementing their hours with teaching and supervision. The first project, funded by Vinnova, involves the mathematical analysis and simulations of antibiotic supply chains of novel and needed antibiotics. Subsequent work will analyse clinical pipelines by means of bio-informatics tools. The second project, funded by Riksbankens Jubileumsfond, will involve multivariate statistical analysis and machine learning techniques to evaluate the performance of public/private partnerships in antibiotic development. The candidate will also need to interact with research teams in Sweden, Europe and the US.

Tasks

Research in Information Systems at Uppsala University is concerned with use and development of IT-based systems with a special focus on the relationships between developers, users, organizations and society. The aim is to increase understanding of how IT can create value for different stakeholders. The research is both theoretical and practical. We seek a candidate with a genuine interest in and good understanding of antibiotics, the antibiotic landscape and the pharmaceutical pipeline in particular. They must have an excellent understanding of business models, statistics, machine learning, Monte Carlo and agent based simulation. They will also have a have a broad skill set and an ability to grasp software development, medical and business knowledge with comparative ease.

Requirements

A resercher in Information Systems, Computing, Bio-Informatics, Computational Biology, Statistics or Business with extensive computer programming is required. The Vinnova project will contribute 20 % of the candidate’s salary, while the Riksbankens Jubileumsfond project will support approximately 46 % of their salary. Additional work tasks at the department (teaching and administration) may be required (approximately 20 %).
