The Department of Peace and Conflict Research was founded in 1971 with the purpose of conducting research and offer education in the field of peace and conflict studies. The department is today a young, dynamic and international workplace with about 70 employees and about 300-400 students from all over the world. For the department and for the project "An Impediment or Inducement to Peace? The Inclusion of Civil Society Actors in Peace Processes" with project leader Desiré Nilsson, we are now looking for a research assistant (full time position, 5 months employment).

Project Description
The project focuses on the role of civil society in peace processes. The project will collect data on civil society's role in the peace negotiations between the warring parties in the civil war, for example, the type of civil society actor (eg women's organizations or religious actors); their role during the negotiations (e.g. such as observers or participating in parallel forums), as well as the timing of their participation.

Duties 
The main work consists of collecting data on civil society's role in civil peace negotiations, but also initial analysis of collected information, as well as editing and formatting of article manuscripts.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree in peace and conflict studies
  • excellent English skills (both verbal and written)
  • very good collaborative ability and ability to work independently.

Merit

  • Master degree in peace and conflict studies
  • Experience of data collection, especially in peace and conflict research (in particular on civil society in peace negotiations)
  • good knowledge of literature on peace negotiations and the role of civil society in peace processes in intrastate conflicts
  • good knowledge of statistics and statistics programs
