Uppsala University, Department of Sociology

The Department of Sociology at Uppsala University is seeking a qualified research assistant to conduct empirical work on electronic platforms trading workforce/labor/services. The number of electronic platforms has increased but we know relatively little about the practice of work and work conditions on these. This project is about to be launched and studies the transaction of primarily labor, in its various forms, on electronic platforms. Tiptapp is an example of such a platform.

Duties: Doing interviews, participant observation and observation of sellers and buyers using electronic platforms. The details of the project will be decided in conversation with the project leader.

Requirements: At least ongoing master level education (or equivalent) in social science with a strong preference for sociology. Computer literate, experience of doing, for example interviewing and participant observation, and analyzing qualitative work.

Your application should include:

  • C.V.
  • A short letter in which you write about your relevant skills, experience of electronic platform, and describe what you find puzzling with them
  • Written samples (thesis, articles etc.)
  • A list of no more than three reference persons.
