Description:

Researcher focused on the design and synthesis of bioactive peptides and peptidomimetics in the areas of infection and neurotransmission, as well as method development within the same field.

Duties:

You will work with development of synthetic methods for producing peptide isosteres and building blocks useful in the development of new peptidomimetics. You are also expected to design and synthesize bioactive peptides and peptidomimetics, especially in the field of protease inhibition.

More specifically, you will work with organic synthesis and peptide chemistry, including purification and characterization by means of chromatography and spectroscopic techniques. The work also includes documentation of the laboratory work, as well as planning and evaluation of data, and the compiling of manuscripts. You are also expected to summarize results and present at group meetings, seminars and research conferences.

Your assignments include mentoring of undergraduate students or equivalent. The position includes part-time responsibility for maintenance of equipment and instruments at the department.

Qualifications:

You must have a PhD in the fields of organic chemistry or medicinal chemistry as well as multi-year experience of practical work and method development in organic synthesis and/or peptide synthesis. You should have experience in the design and development of bioactive molecules.

You should be able to express yourself well in English, in both speech and writing. You should have experience in compiling research data in manuscript form and in mentoring. You should be able to work independently as well as in teams.

Desirable / merit:

Experiences in the development of peptidomimetics, protease inhibitors and in sulfurchemistry. Documented experience of supervision and teaching is an advantage.

International experiences from various research environments are desirable.

Salary: Individually negotiated salary.
