Postdoctoral Research Fellow specializing in the study of national minorities in terms of sociolinguistics and literary science - Hiring in process/Finished, not possible to apply

The Hugo Valentin Centre (HVC) is an interdisciplinary unit at the Department of History, Uppsala University, with a focus on research and education in two fields: first, cultural, social and political phenomena and processes of change related to the ethnic dimension of human life and, second, holocaust and genocide studies. The former involves studying minorities and ethnic relations in a broad sense, with an emphasis on migration, language and cultural revitalization, integration, discrimination, and political and social conditions in a multicultural context. The second area of research deals with the history and memory of the Holocaust, comparative analysis of genocide and other grave violations of human rights, and research on the effects of violence on individuals and society. Research is conducted in a markedly interdisciplinary research environment that brings together researchers with a background in history and philosophy, language studies and social sciences.

This announcement concerns a position as postdoctoral fellow in the study of national minorities in terms of sociolinguistics and literary science.

Work duties
A postdoctoral fellow’s duties consist mainly of research, but also some administration and the task of applying for external research funding in the field concerned. The position requires continuous attendance at the Centre, active participation in seminars, on-going presentation of the fellow’s research and, where necessary, some teaching and supervision of students corresponding to up to 20% of the position.

Eligibility requirements:
- A PhD or corresponding academic subject proficiency in the humanities or social sciences obtained no more than three years before the application deadline. Under certain conditions, the PhD may have been obtained earlier. By such conditions are meant leaves due to illness, parental leave, assignments of trust in trade unions, etc.
- Previous research experience within the planned research area.
- Planned research in sociolinguistics or literary science.

Other skills include:
- Administrative experience, displayed by an ability to plan, organize and prioritize work in an efficient manner, for instance by setting and keeping deadlines.
- Very good skills in both oral and written English.
- Good ability to organize work and experiences in project management.
- Documented ability in terms of interdisciplinary perspectives and cooperation is beneficial.

The application must contain the following items:
- A curriculum vitae and attested copies of certificates and other documents referred to in the application.
- A list of up to five academic works (including the dissertation either in published or manuscript form) cited in the application. The publications should be uploaded as pdfs and rank-ordered according to their relevance for the application. It must also be clearly stated which publications belong to the following categories: dissertations, monographs, peer-reviewed articles and book chapters.
- A five-page description of the research that the applicant intends to carry out at HVC must be enclosed with the application. It should contain a clear and theoretically grounded research aim, an account of how the project contributes to the international state of the art in the field; a discussion regarding method; and a precise schedule for project implementation. How the planned project is connected with current research at the Centre and/or contributes to the renewal of its activities, and how the applicant intends to present the results, should also be clearly stated.

The application will be assessed by the scientific quality of the project proposal, and the applicant's qualifications.
