Uppsala University, Department of Chemistry - Ångström Laboratory

The Department of Chemistry - Ångström laboratory conducts research and education in the chemistry field. The department has more than 200 employees and has a turnover just over 200 million SEK. At the department's seven programs, we conduct very successful research of a high international standard. We have a large number of externally funded research projects, often with international cooperation and we see continued good growth in our subject area. The department has education assignments in engineering and civil engineering programs and master's programs.

Subject description: The researcher will be part of “Molecular Devices for Artificial Photosynthesis” group within the physical chemistry program. The program which is highly recognized internationally is part of the Department of chemistry – Ångström Laboratory, within the chemistry section at Uppsala University. The group is situated in a modern building at the Ångström Laboratory.

Work duties: The candidate will prepare organic polymer nano-particles and study their performance with regards to hydrogen generation from water. The research will be performed in collaboration with several researchers and research groups in Sweden. Specifically, the collaboration involves organic chemists as well as biochemists for the design of new components, and physical chemists for advanced spectroscopic measurements. The project will be performed at the division of Physical Chemistry at the Department of Chemistry – Ångström Laboratory.

Requirements: The must have a PhD degree in Chemistry, or equivalent, with focus on photochemistry. Experience in preparation of  nanoparticles and advanced spectroscopic measurements, such as transient absorption / fluorescence spectroscopy is a demand. Additionally, experience in photocatalysis, surface functionalization or biochemistry is advantageous. A high level of written and spoken English as well as the ability to work in a team is required.

Consideration will also be given to good collaborative skills, drive and independence, and how the applicant’s experience and skills complement and strengthen ongoing research within the department, and how they stand to contribute to its future development.

Additional qualifications: Experience in polymer synthesis and/or organic chemistry is highly meriting. Additionally, experience in photocatalysis, surface functionalization or biochemistry is advantageous. Previous postdoctoral experience or equivalent is desirable.

The application should include a statement of research interest, CV, certificates of degrees, published articles or relevant materials, if available. Also, contact information of at least two reference persons should be included.
