The Department of Peace and Conflict Research was founded in 1971 with the purpose of conducting research and offering education in the field of peace and conflict studies. The institution is today a young, dynamic and international workplace with about 70 employees and approximately 300-400 students from all over the world. More about the institution's activities can be found at http://www.pcr.uu.se.

For the department, we are now looking for a research assistant for a full-time five months temporary position. The research assistant will work on the project “Climate Change, Food Insecurity and Violent Conflict”, funded by the Swedish Research Council, SIDA, and FORMAS (about 80% of time). The assistant will also in more limited extent work for the Mistra Geopolitics Research Program (about 20% of time).

Work tasks:
Research and administrative tasks in both of the above projects, which means;

  • data compilation and data analysis using STATA and R.
  • data visualization, data collection and coding.
  • prepare background information on food security and resilience indicators.
  • prepare drafts on scientific texts; updates of project websites.

 
Qualifications:

  • master's degree in Peace and Conflict Research, Development Economics or related disciplines.
  • experience in data management and compilation, as well as the use of Stata and R.
  • good knowledge of the fields of food security and resilience in relation to armed conflict.
  • weight will be put on personal suitability, like ability to cooperate and independently analyze data
  • ability to draft scientific texts on a scientific basis.
  • good knowledge in English.


Other/merit:

  • knowledge of GIS software.
  • previous experience of working as a research assistant.
  • knowledge of UN agencies working in the field of food security and/or conflict prevention.
