Uppsala universitet,

The Department of Physics and Astronomy at Uppsala University invites applications for a postdoctoral position in ion physics, working with deposition and characterization of photochromic materials. Analytical methods based on ion beams will be the most relevant tools for the research to be conducted. The candidate is expected to contribute to an equal extend to studies of fundamental ion-solid interaction. A third working duty consists in development of the existing instrumentation with a focus on detector systems to be used for experiments employing MeV ions.

At the tandem laboratory within Uppsala University, comprising the experimental base for the project two tandem accelerators are located (a 5 MV pelletron and a 170 kV MICADAS compact radiocarbon dating system). An ion implantation facility with associated ToF-MEIS set-up is also available. The set-ups are completed by a Low-energy ion scattering system with a coupled analytical chamber with equipment for thin film deposition and modification. The successful candidate is also expected to contribute to interdisciplinary materials research investigations using MeV ion beams as well as the other equipment.

Prerequisites:  The holder of a position as postdoctoral researcher must have a PhD degree or equivalent.   The PhD degree must have been obtained at the start of the employment and no more than three years prior to the application deadline; however, periods of e.g. sick leave or parental leave are not counted.

Employment Period: The period of employment is 2 years.

The application should contain a letter describing the applicant and her/his qualifications and research interests. It should contain a CV, copies of relevant degrees, contact information for at least two reference persons, and a full publication list. Personal circumstances that may be of relevance in the evaluation, for example periods of parental leave, should be mentioned in the CV.

The department strives for a more even gender balance in its research and teaching staff. Thus, female applicants are especially encouraged.  Sweden has a generous welfare system that includes paid parental leave, affordable daycare and practically free medical care.

Salary: Individually negotiated salary.
