Uppsala University, Department of Peace and Conflict Research

The Department of Peace and Conflict Research was established in 1971 to conduct peace research and offer Courses in peace and conflict studies. Currently approx. 70 persons are employed at the Department and at present some 300-400 students are enrolled every academic year. Courses offered include undergraduate and post-graduate courses, as well as a Ph. D. programme.


The department is now looking for a researcher for a full-time permanent position.

 
Work description
The researcher will work on the role of third parties in contexts of humanitarian emergencies and peacekeeping operations. Together with other researchers in the team, the recruited researcher will work to analyze the role of third party actors in enhancing human security, particularly related to civilian protection and complex emergencies. The researcher will also work on the role of mission composition in affecting peacekeeping effectiveness. The position may also entail limited teaching at the undergraduate- and/or graduate-levels and administration. 

Qualifications and required skills 
PhD in Peace and Conflict Studies. Peer-reviewed publications in the field of third party intervention and conflict dynamics. Documented experience in collecting and analysing conflict-data and experience from large-scale data collection. Documented experience working with quantitative and qualitative research methods. Advanced proficiency in written English.

Additional qualifications/Qualification desired:  Experience from field-work in and/or documented in-depth knowledge of cases relevant to the research project, including Mali, Somalia or DRC.
