Uppsala University, Department of Chemistry - BMC

The Department of Chemistry – BMC is located at the Uppsala Biomedical Centre campus. It belongs to the Faculty of Science and Technology and conducts research in analytical chemistry, biochemistry, and organic chemistry. The research in analytical chemistry is focused on method development and omics applications of biological samples using high resolution mass spectrometry. The environment is creative and research intense and has both broad knowledge base and cutting edge expertise.

We are now looking for a Postdoctoral researcher in analytical chemistry with specialization in mass spectrometry

The position as postdoctoral researcher is in the group of Dr. Ingela Lanekoff (http://www.kemi.uu.se/research/analytical-chemistry+/lanekoff-group/). The position is part of an externally funded project for building an automated platform for mass spectrometry imaging based on nanospray desorption electrospray ionization (nano-DESI) mass spectrometry.

Duties:
The successful candidate will be involved in designing and implementing physical modules for the new platform, and generate new data on small biomolecules from tissue sections and cells. In addition, the postdoctoral researcher will be expected to develop molecular probes for targeted analytes, data handling strategies, and collaborate with students and researchers from different fields.

Required qualifications:

  • PhD in analytical chemistry related subject. The PhD degree should have been obtained no more than three years prior to the application deadline. The three-year period can be extended on special circumstances, such as prolonged periods of illness, parental leave, military service, union duties, and others of similar character
  • Strong background in electrospray mass spectrometry
  • Interest in method/technique development for surface based bioanalysis
  • Skilled in communicating in English, both orally and written

Preferred qualifications:

  • Hands on experience with custom instrumentation
  • Demonstrated experience coupling capillary electrophoresis to mass spectrometry
  • Expertise in analysis of metabolomics data and metabolic pathway analysis
  • Programming skills in MATLAB and/or LabVIEW

We attach great importance to personal skills and are searching for a motivated candidate with high potential and ability to work both as part of a team and independently. To be successful in collaborations we are looking for a result-oriented team player who has the ability to take initiative, responsibility, and work in a structured manner.

Application:
Submit the application containing CV, full publication list, and personal letter including a short description of research interests using the link in this ad. The application will be evaluated based on the following criteria: Appropriate education, experinces and work/research in related fields. Emphasis will also be placed on personal skills.
