Uppsala University, Department of Peace and Conflict Research

The Department of Peace and Conflict Research was established in 1971 to conduct peace research and offer Courses in peace and conflict studies. Currently approx. 70 persons are employed at the Department and at present some 300-400 students are enrolled every academic year. Courses offered include undergraduate and post-graduate courses, as well as a Ph. D. Programme. For more information, visit http://www.pcr.uu.se.

For the department and for the Uppsala Rotary Peace Center, we are now looking for a research assistant for a shorter full-time employment. The employment involves both research related tasks, within the research area gender dimensions in conflict and peace building efforts, as well as administration within the Uppsala Rotary Peace Center (www.pcr.uu.se/education/uppsala-rotary-peace-center/).

Duties: The majority of the employment involves research-related tasks, such as assisting the project manager with analysis of qualitative and quantitative data and drafting texts. A smaller part of the service is administrative and involves supporting the Uppsala Rotary Peace Center Director with administrative tasks in the daily operations. This can, for example, mean logistical support at various meetings and events (academic workshops as well as more outward activities and cooperation with Rotary in Sweden and internationally); marketing by collecting and processing information for newsletters, Facebook / website, manuals and presentations at Rotary clubs and conferences; administer routines for follow-up and contact with alumni (former peace fellow students); as well as design and order different materials for marketing (i.e. roll-ups).

Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Peace and Conflict Studies, Political Science or equivalent, which the project leader finds relevant.
  • Very good knowledge of academic English.
  • Basic knowledge about social media and the Microsoft Office package.
  • It is very important that the applicant can work systematically, has an eye for details, has good interpersonal skills, as well as a good ability to meet deadlines.

Desirable/meriting in general:

  • Knowledge of gender dimensions of conflict and peace building efforts.
  • Previous experience of being a research assistant or researcher.
  • Knowledge of Rotary's peace fellowship program.
  • Own experience of Rotary's peace fellowship program.
  • Knowledge of the Master's Program in Peace and Conflict Studies at Uppsala University.
  • Experience of marketing, including through social media.
