Uppsala University, Department of Peace and Conflict Research

The Department of Peace and Conflict Research was established in 1971 to conduct peace  research and offer Courses in peace and conflict studies. Currently approx. 70 persons are employed at the Department and at present some 300-400 students are enrolled every academic year. Work description: For the department, we now seek to hire a researcher to work on the consequences of election related violence for the development trajectory, stability and quality of political institutions. Together with other researchers in the team, the recruited researcher will work on questions related to the impact of electoral violence on democratic attitudes and behavior, the quality of state institutions, and political developments at the national and sub-national level. The position may entail teaching at the undergraduate- and/or graduate-levels, up to 20 % of the successful applicant’s work-time.

Qualifications and required skills: At the time of application, the successful candidate should have a PhD in Peace and Conflict Studies or other, related field. Documented experience working with advanced quantitative methods, in particular from work with survey data, multi-level statistical modeling and causal inference. Documented research merits related to analyzing the social, political or economic consequences of political violence. Advanced proficiency in written English.

Additional qualifications/Qualification desired: Peer-reviewed publications related to the consequences of political violence on social, political or economic outcomes. Documented experience with qualitative research methods and experience from field-work in conflict-affected countries.
