Uppsala University, Department of Physics and Astronomy

The Division of Materials Theory is known to have a world-class research environment in solid state theory, including both numerical and analytical models. The research is focused on electronic structures, magnetism, topological phases of matter, correlated phenomena and green energy solutions.

Duties: The researcher will be part of a larger theoretical team focusing on research of magnetic materials, correlated electronic structures and new materials. This involves research on many body physics both using analytical and computational tools.

The applicant is also expected to have expertise in machine learning algorithms and their application to phenomena in solid state physics, e.g. many body physics. For the latter, emphasis will be put on multi-configurational states and quantum information notions (e.g., entanglement entropy). The applicant is expected to work in the rapidly developing area of neural network algorithms applied to solid state systems, using advanced numerical techniques, including but not limited to impurity solver in dynamical mean-field theory.

Requirements: The applicant is expected to have a PhD degree in Physics, with a good background in solid-state physics and theory in general.

The application should include a statement of research interest, CV, certificates of exams, degrees and grades, a copy of the PhD thesis, or equivalent, published articles and other relevant materials, if available. Also, letter(s) of recommendation can be included.

Uppsala University strives to be an inclusive workplace that promotes equal opportunities and attracts qualified candidates who can contribute to the University’s excellence and diversity. We welcome applications from all sections of the community and from people of all backgrounds. Uppsala University is striving to achieve a more even gender balance and women are especially encouraged to apply.
