Two or more PhD positions in Theoretical Physics within the subfields of Quantum Field Theory, Supergravity and String Theory - Hiring in process/Finished, not possible to apply

The PhD positions are part of two projects hosted by the Division of Theoretical Physics, and the starting date is April 1, 2019 or later according to agreement.

At the Division of Theoretical Physics, Department of Physics and Astronomy, we are engaged in research in string theory, quantum field theory, supergravity and related mathematical physics. Examples of our activities include: supersymmetry, gauge/gravity duality, integrability, scattering amplitudes, gravitational waves, cosmology, and string phenomenology.

The research directions, and funding, of the PhD positions are tied to the two projects:

From scattering amplitudes to gravitational waves, Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation grant, principal investigator Henrik Johansson, www.physics.uu.se/research/theoretical-physics/people/henrik-johansson.

The unity of scattering amplitudes: gauge theory, gravity, strings and number theory, European Research Council grant, principal investigator Oliver Schlotterer, www.physics.uu.se/research/theoretical-physics/people/oliver-schlotterer.

The projects include generous travel support for attending schools and conferences.

The positions require a university degree in physics. The application must include a letter where the applicant describes herself/himself, her/his merits and research interests as well as a CV, copies of university grades, completed theses or manuscripts and other relevant publications. Moreover, we expect two letters of recommendation to be included (letters may be sent via email). Preference will be given to candidates with a strong academic background and some research experience in the fields: quantum field theory, supergravity, string theory, or classical perturbation theory in gravity and gauge theory.

The positions as a PhD student are limited to four years of full-time studies, five years if departmental work is included. The main activities will be research studies. Other duties at the department related to teaching and administration may be included in the position (maximum 20%).
