The Department of Peace and Conflict Research was established in 1971 to conduct peace research and offer Courses in peace and conflict studies. Currently approx. 70 persons are employed at the Department and at present some 300-400 students are enrolled every academic year. Courses offered include undergraduate and post-graduate courses, as well as a Ph. D. programme. For more information, visit http://www.pcr.uu.se.
For the department and for the research project "Demagogues of Hate or Shepherds of Peace? Why 'Warlord Democrats' (Re) securitize Wartime Identities" we are looking for a research assistant for a temporary position.
Duties:
The research assistant will, amongst other things, do the following tasks:
- systematically code empirical data on former military leaders and transitional justice mechanisms in post-civil war countries
- do textual analysis of speeches made by former military leaders
- write literature reviews on transitional justice and post-civil war democratization
- do desk research on former military leaders in Nigeria.
Qualifications
Applicants must have:
- a Master Degree in Peace and Conflict Research or Political Science
- experience of systematically coding large amounts of empirical data
- excellent knowledge of English (both in writing and reading).
The applicant must also be able to work well both independently and with colleagues.
Additional Merits
Experience of:
- working with textual analysis
- working with/writing about transitional justice mechanisms
- conducting research on/working with Nigeria
- working as a research assistant.
Good knowledge of Uppsala Conflict Data Program'a definitions (UCDP). Weight will also be put on personal suitability.
