Uppsala University, Department of Cell and Molecular Biology

The Department of Cell and Molecular Biology is one of the most international, broad and successful biomolecular departments in Europe covering seven research programs in areas such as bioinformatics, microbiology and biophysics.

Science for Life Laboratory (SciLifeLab, www.scilifelab.se) in Sweden serves as a national infrastructure to support advanced high-throughput life science research. The National Bioinformatics Infrastructure Sweden at SciLifeLab (www.nbis.se) is a large national infrastructure in rapid development providing support, tools and training to the Swedish life science research community. We are now looking for a new member to join the Bioinformatics Long-term Support team (a.k.a WABI). Bioinformatics Long-term Support provides advanced bioinformatics analyses to some of the most scientifically exciting projects across Sweden. Launched in the beginning of 2013, the team currently comprises more than 20 full-time senior bioinformaticians, and constitutes one of the strongest units for analysis of large-scale genomics and integrative omics data in Sweden. Examples of supported scientific areas range from transnational medicine and complex diseases, to evolutionary and environmental research. We are now looking for a new permanent team member initially intended to engage as a key player in a very large sequencing project on plant genomics.

Working duties
You will provide advanced bioinformatics support to high-quality research projects, and develop and implement tools and resources for the research community. You will also provide and promote national bioinformatics training, networking and knowledge transfer, and take part in the continuous development and improvement of the bioinformatics support at a national level. Research support comprise at least 80% of the work.

During the first four years, the position will focus on assembly and annotation, as well as comparative and evolutionary genomics within a large research project on plant genomics. The work will require high technical and scientific competence. You will collaborate closely with bioinformaticians and other researchers within the project, but will also interact with other staff within NBIS/SciLifeLab. After four years, the position will switch to other research projects within the framework of Bioinformatics Long-terms Support.

Qualifications
The successful candidate should have (i) a PhD or similar relevant working experience from advanced studies within bioinformatics, either within academia or industry, (ii) fluent oral and written communication skills in English, and (iii) strong skills in cooperation and communication.
