The Department of Physics and Astronomy invites applications for a Research Engineer position to work with magnets and power technology for particle accelerators and instrumentation. The Department of Physics and Astronomy is the second largest department at Uppsala University with more than 400 employees and 11 different divisions, situated at the Ångström Laboratory in Uppsala. The department is hosting the FREIA Laboratory that performs research towards future particle accelerators, with special focus on the European Spallation Source (ESS), the High Luminosity upgrade of the LHC at CERN, the development of free-electron lasers, and the development of ultra-fast electron diffraction (UED) instrument in Uppsala.

The candidate is offered the possibility to work in an exciting modern research area in physics and will have opportunities to interact and collaborate with leading groups in experimental physics and engineering.

Description of Subject Area: The candidate will, in collaboration with other members of the FREIA Laboratory, work on the design and development of a advanced accelerators and instrumentation in general, and specifically on the development, construction, and operation of power converters, RF amplifiers, magnets and water cooling systems. New methods and new technologies need to be developed and followed-up during their implementation.

Work Description: Design, simulation, construction, validation and operation of power converters, RF amplifiers, superconducting and normal conducting magnets, water cooling systems. Regular presentations of the different development steps, communication with specialists on the different topics, in Uppsala or at other laboratories, participation in the operation and evaluation of experiments at the FREIA Laboratory. Actively contribute to outlook activities and contact with collaborators and commercial distributers. Projects are organized on national and international level and require travel.

Prerequisites: The applicant must have a MSc degree in physics or electronics or a related area. Excellent knowledge and experience in power converters, and/or RF amplifiers, and/or magnets is and advantage.

We are looking for a qualified and motivated candidate with a strong interest in technical developments with an ambition and ability to collaborate and exchange knowledge with other experts within the same field and willingness to travel. Good oral and written proficiency in Swedish and English is required as well as the capacity to work both independently and in a team. You shall take responsibility, shall organize multiple tasks simultaneously, are innovative and have a genuine interest in research and technology.
