Working plan:
The Zoonosis Science Center is devoted to studies of zoonotic pathogens of importance for human health. We are interested in zoonotic ecology and epidemiology, host pathogen interactions, pathogenesis, infectivity and antibiotic resistance of major zoonotic pathogens including Enterobacteriaceae, influenza A virus, hantaviruses, flaviviruses and others. We strive for an interdisciplinary environment combining scientists in the fields of molecular microbiology, medicine, veterinary medicine and ecology with experience from many countries.
The researcher will study antibiotic resistance in Enterobacteriaceae in samples from animals and humans with a focus on potential transmission of clones and/or genetic material in between hosts. This involves culturing and basic phenotypic analysis of Enterobacteriaceae and genetic analysis of isolates through PCR and next generation sequencing techniques. A large part of the work will be devoted to interpretation of whole genome sequencing data. The researcher will also be expected to lead the development of general pipelines to facilitate efficient analysis of large quantities of whole genome sequencing data from different projects in the research group. The work includes supervision of PhD students and undergraduate students.
Qualifications:
The applicant should have a PhD in microbiology, veterinary medicine, medicine or medical sciences. Since the project is focused on analysis of whole genome sequencing data, experience from such work is an absolute requirement. Experience in basic bacteriology as well as practical and molecular work with bacteria are important qualifications. Personal qualifications are highly important, such as good skills in communication and collaboration with other members of the research group.
Merits of advantage:
Good skills in bioinformatics and molecular genetics in prokaryotic systems are merits, as well as good background knowledge of antibiotic resistance and basic bacteriology. It is an advantage if your PhD degree is relatively new.
Application: The application should include a short description of the applicant and his/her experience, CV and list of publications, copies of exams, degrees and grades as well as contact details of two references. Letter(s) of recommendation may be included.
Salary: According to individual qualifications
