The Department of Immunology, Genetics and Pathology at Uppsala University (www.igp.uu.se) has a broad research profile with strong research groups focused on cancer, autoimmune and genetic diseases. A fundamental idea at the department is to stimulate translational research and thereby closer interactions between medical research and health care. Research is presently conducted in the following areas: medical and clinical genetics, clinical immunology, pathology, neuro-oncology, vascular biology, radiation science and molecular tools. Department activities are also integrated with the units for Oncology, Clinical Genetics, Clinical Immunology, Clinical Pathology, and Hospital Physics at Akademiska sjukhuset, Uppsala. The department has teaching assignments in several education programmes, including Master Programmes, at the Faculty of Medicine, and in a number of educations at the Disciplinary Domain of Science and Technology. The department has a yearly turnover of around SEK 400 million, out of which more than half is made up of external funding. The staff amounts to approximately 340 employees, out of which 100 are PhD-students, and there are in total more than 600 affiliated people.

Science for Life Laboratory, SciLifeLab, is a Swedish national center for molecular biosciences with focus on health and environmental research. The center combines frontline technical expertise with advanced knowledge of translational medicine and molecular bioscience. SciLifeLab is a joint effort between Karolinska Institutet, KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm University and Uppsala University. SciLifeLab was established in 2010 and appointed a national center in 2013. Today, approximately 1,500 persons work at the center’s two sites in Stockholm and Uppsala.

System developer
Uppsala University and Science for Life Laboratory (SciLifeLab) is looking for a full time system developer, subject to six months probationary period. The starting date is as soon as possible, subject to agreement.

This position is placed at SciLifeLab in Solna, but in close cooperation with SciLifeLab in Uppsala. The successful candidate will be working at the SciLifeLab Data Centre, a newly formed unit with responsibility for IT- and data management issues, serving the SciLifeLab technology platforms, their users and Swedish researchers in general. Working at the Data Centre, you will be at the core of Sweden’s top infrastructure for life sciences and have the opportunity to actively shape how state-of-the-art IT services are integrated in Swedish life science research, and help to maximize the scientific impact of the large amount of research data generated at SciLifeLab.

Job description: SciLifeLab Data Centre is responsible for maximizing the availability and impact of SciLifeLab generated research data, to benefit the whole research community. We have systems and collaborations for data sharing, storage and access control of data, and support our technology platforms with data- and IT services. By providing good IT services and systems, we facilitate a strong research environment where proper data management according to the FAIR principles is front and centre.

This position involves work on our order portal system, and development of new systems for tracking user projects and generated data. These systems will also track the impact of data through scientific articles and data publishing, and link to our publications database and access control systems for sensitive human datasets. For this job, experience with database- and webprogramming is crucial. Experience from working with researchdata in a production environment, and knowledge about how large international researchcenters manage their data, will be helpful but is not required. The job also includes certain support for these systems towards facilities and researchers, so skills in good communication and close cooperation with researchers, technical- and administrative personnel is a strong advantage.

Qualifications: This job requires a universitydegree in a computer science, bioinformatics or other relevant subject area. In addition is required:

- Documented experience from software development, preferably in Python, Ruby, Javascript or other high level languages.
- Documented experience from database- and webprogramming.
- Good skills in documenting work and code.
- Strong communication skills in English.

Meriting:
- Working with other developers in software development projects.
- Experience from projectmanagement.
- Knowledge about IT-security and issues around managing sensitive personal data.
- Experience working with life science-data, for example through own research background, work as a bioinformatician, or software development at a research or service unit in life sciences.
- Ability to work both individually and in cooperation with personnel in widely different fields.
- Drive and initiative to support and develop the IT and data management processes for Swedish scientists.
- Communication skills in Swedish.
