The present PhD position is within the research group Clinical Psychology in Healthcare, hosting U-CARE, within the Department of Women’s and Children’s Health, in collaboration with the Centre for Gender Research. The research group Clinical Psychology in Healthcare, and the interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary research program U-CARE (http://www.u-care.uu.se), are situated at the Department of Women’s and Children’s Health. The U-CARE group specializes in the development, piloting, and evaluation of eHealth services for people with somatic disease, and their significant others. U-CARE has several international collaborations and our competence within research methodology has been acknowledged in the latest evaluation of research conducted at Uppsala University.

The Centre for Gender Research (http://www.gender.uu.se/) is an interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary research unit. The Centre offers a creative and diverse environment with researchers who have backgrounds in a range of disciplines in the faculties of humanities, social sciences, natural/technological sciences, and medicine. Prominent areas of research include Gender and Science Education, Human- Animal Studies, Masculinity Studies, Queer Studies, Feminist Cultural Studies, and Family/Kinship Studies. The Centre for Gender Research is a Centre for gender excellence, and was highly acclaimed in the latest research evaluation at Uppsala University.

Duties/Project Description: We are looking for a doctoral student to work in a project focusing on the experiences and mental health of adult daughters providing informal care to older parents. It will primarily focus on developing an understanding of the specific difficulties experienced by this under-served group within the Swedish context. This will include developing an understanding of these difficulties in relation to the Swedish gender equality model and provision of public support.

The PhD programme spans four years of full-time work. Additional service at the Department of Women’s and Children’s Health and/or Centre for Gender Research regarding administrative and/or educational work may apply (max 20%) which then prolongs the duration of the PhD programme with the corresponding time.

Qualifications: To be eligible for the position, you need to have completed a degree at advanced (Masters) level in Psychology, Health Care Sciences, Behavioural Sciences, or a related area. Desirable qualifications consist of knowledge of psychological and behavioural change theory and previous documented experience of gender studies, and/or prior experience of research relevant for the position.

Methodological experience in quantitative and qualitative methods, and statistical programming is of value. The applicant must be an Advanced or Proficient User of both Swedish and English.
