Uppsala University, Department of Medical Cell Biology

The Department of Medical Cell Biology at Uppsala University has a strong and international research environment with over 100 scientists, including around 25 PhD students, 20 postdocs and 30 researchers and professors

A postdoc researcher position is available immediately at the Department of Medical Cell Biology, in the group of Sebastian Barg. The lab studies the cell biology of regulated exocytosis and hormone secretion in the context of type-2 diabetes, using high-resolution and single molecule imaging in combination with patch-clamp electrophysiology and genetic approaches. For more information about the lab see http://www.mcb.uu.se/res/groups/sb/

The Department of Medical Cell Biology has a strong commitment to diabetes research and is part of the national EXODIAB network (http://www.exodiab.se/). There is excellent access to core facilities for imaging and other relevant technologies through the nearby national SciLifeLab.

Work tasks

You are expected to conduct research understanding the mechanisms related to secretion and how these mechanisms fail in diabetes. This involves experimental work using high-resolution live cell imaging, molecular biology, super-resolution imaging, image analysis, culturing cell lines and primary cells. and active participation in the day to day operation and mission of the lab, including supervision of research students and participation in the writing of grant application and publications. Teaching (including supervision of research students) and administrative duties can be a part of the position, to a maximum of 20 %.
