Uppsala university, Department of Chemistry - BMC

The Department of Chemistry – BMC is located at the Uppsala Biomedical Centre campus. It belongs to the Faculty of Science and Technology and conducts research in biochemistry, organic chemistry, analytical chemistry, and physical chemistry. The department benefits from close contacts with other disciplines nearby and interacts with biomedicine, pharmacy, physics and materials science. Scientists with expertise in biophysical methods of interaction analysis are responsible for a facility belonging to SciLifeLab, part of a national infrastructure for research in life science. The creative and research-intense environment contributes to a broad knowledge-base as well as cutting-edge expertise. In addition, Uppsala University has a highly developed innovation office that gives support for commercialization and external collaboration. Click here to read more about us.

Uppsala University offers one of the country’s best educations in chemistry, with strong links to world- leading research. A wide range of courses, excellent research connections, and extensive lab work characterizes the teaching. Click here to read more about our education.

We are looking for a researcher, temporary position for 2 years.

Research conducted within the group where the researcher will work focuses on analytical developments for mass spectrometric analysis of lipids and metabolites directly of biological surfaces, such as thin tissue sections and cells. The main technique used is nanospray desorption electrospray ionization, nano-DESI, which enables localized liquid extraction at highly defined positions. Click here to read more about our group.

Duties: The researcher is expected to contribute to design and construction of components for development of localized liquid extraction techniques interface to mass spectrometry. Further, the researcher is expected to acquire data from biological material and use and develop strategies for data analysis. Some supervision of students will be part of the duties, not more than 20 % of full time.

Requirements: To be eligible to apply you must have a PhD degree in an area related to analytical chemistry. Post doctoral experience related to localized liquid extraction techniques and mass spectrometry with high mass resolving power is highly meriting. We put great emphasis on personal qualifications. This position demands a creative person with the ability to create novel tools both for data acquisition and data analysis. Further, we put great emphasis on the ability to communicate, cooperate, and work with project students. We work in an international environment and the ability to communicate in English is highly important.

The application: The application should be written in English and must include the following documents: (1) a letter describing the applicant’s interest in the field of the position, (2) a Curriculum Vitae with a list of scientific publications, and (3) a brief description of the applicant's previous research in the field of analytical chemistry (1-2 pages).

Uppsala University values the qualities that even gender distribution and diversity add to the business. We therefore look forward to searching for all sexes and with different birth background, functionality and life experience.
