The Department of Informatics and Media has a broad research profile, focusing on current research topics and societal challenges, among other, information systems, interaction design and media and communication. The Department of Informatics and Media offers Bachelor and Master programmes and courses within the Faculty of Social Sciences. The department’s turnover is approx. 60 million SEK. The department has about 85 employees.

Duties: The position involves teaching and research in Information Systems. Teaching is to be conducted at undergraduate, advanced and/or PhD levels, including supervision of doctoral students. The employment focuses on data science and big data analytics with emphasis on societally relevant applications. The holder of the lectureship is expected to take responsibility for courses in these fields, but additional subjects may also be included. The duties include responsibility for courses, course development, and administrative work at the department. The employee is expected to actively to search for external research funding and to follow the developments in the subject field as well as in society in general and also to participate in the internationalization of the education. In addition to Information Systems, the Department of Informatics and Media comprises the disciplines of Human-Computer Interaction and Media and Communication Studies. The holder of the lectureship is expected to actively contribute to the department’s efforts to find research and education synergies between these three disciplines.

Eligibility: To be eligible for appointment as senior lecturer, the applicant must hold a Ph.D. or possess equivalent scholarly competence. In addition,, the applicant must have demonstrated teaching expertise and a general eligibility requirement is that the applicant must have the personal characteristics required to perform the duties of the post well.

The ability to teach in Swedish or English is a requirement.

Assessment: Equal importance will be given to research and teaching skills in the assessment of applicants.

In assessing research expertise research quality will be the prime consideration. The scope of research, primarily in regard to depth and breadth, will also be afforded consideration. Furthermore, consideration will be given to the capacity to plan, initiate, lead, and develop research and education at the postgraduate level, the ability to acquire funding for research in competition, as well as the demonstrated capacity to interact with others both within academia and in the wider community.

Pedagogical proficiency will be assessed as thoroughly as scientific proficiency. Pedagogical skills should be well documented so that the quality can be assessed. A broad teaching experience in information systems or equivalent is important for this position and will be given great weight. Particular emphasis will be placed on documented experiences in the given field of study as described in duties.

In assessing teaching expertise teaching quality will be the prime consideration. The scope of teaching experience, in terms of both breadth and depth, will be afforded consideration. Furthermore, consideration will be given to the capacity to plan, initiate, lead, and develop teaching and instruction, as well as the ability to connect research to teaching in respect to research in the subject at hand, subject didactics, as well as teaching and learning in higher education. The ability to interact concerning issues of teaching and learning in higher education with actors inside and outside the University is also included in teaching expertise.

Assessment, other skills: Administrative skills are important for this position and will be afforded great weight.

Administrative expertise is demonstrated, for example, through the capacity to plan, organize, and prioritize work in an efficient and task-oriented manner, as well as through the ability to assign and observe time frames. Expertise includes overall activity planning and the capacity to manage resources in a way that reflects operational priorities as well as the ability to work in a structured manner based on an awareness of goals and quality.

When the University appoints new teachers those applicants must be selected who, following a qualitative holistic assessment of their competence and expertise, are judged to have the best potential to carry out and develop the relevant duties and to help advance operations.
